I am an emerging visual artist currently living and working in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Originally trained as an architect and urbanist, I concentrate my practice in the consideration of the built environment and the natural world. This series depicts the aftermath of Hurricane María on the local airport in the town of Humacao, Aeropuerto Dr. Hermenegildo Ortiz Quiñones. After studying outside of the island, I returned in 2019 just to see an airplane crash into my father’s hangar and destroy the manifestation of years of his hard work. He had built his helicopter from the ground up, and the hangar was a place where most of my personal memories reside. I seek to show the tension between the laborious intent of man and the transient power of nature. This liminal space in-between the destroyed remains of the hangar is a point of contemplation and nostalgia.
