Enlaces & Distorsiones is the most recent proposal by the Vegalteño artist Edward-Víctor Sánchez. It is made up of nine sculptures in methacrylate and wood, and three paintings on canvas. This project was developed in part from the research generated during the Mar Adentro artistic residency in Puertas Adentro, Punta del Este, Uruguay.

Edward-Víctor’s work requires taking into account his large-format and immersive installation language that has characterized his work, as well as his recent experiences as a diaspora. Edward-Víctor, who in addition to being an artist is a professor at the University of Cincinnati School of Art, has been impacted by moves motivated by artistic and work opportunities. For 8 years, he has lived between Vega Alta, Bayamón, Baltimore, Rockville and Cincinnati, traveling, moving his belongings and works from site to site, collecting discarded materials from the environment and from the cities that cross his path. . He thinks and dresses his practice in those pieces of memories of places, events and people. This series invites us to return to those intentions of displacement and mobilization between experiences and cultures.

With these boxes and paintings I materialize in a transportable and concise way a series of ideas, particularly installation projects that I have been working on but that due to lack of space have not been able to be completed in their conceived form, that is, on a large scale. The boxes are what contain and to a certain extent protect these ideas. They can go with me wherever I go, says Edward-Víctor Sánchez.
